Hello everyone! Welcome back to Mafia! If you are not familiar with the game and how it's played, click here to get a basic idea. For veterans, make sure you read through the list of roles, order of operations, etc. A few things have changed from before.
This time around, the entire roles list will not be revealed. Instead, I have designated several roles as "hidden," meaning you will not know every role that is in the game. Combined with the Investigator role, part of the challenge will be identifying which roles I have included.
Post in this thread to sign up for this game. It'll go on for days and probably a few weeks, so please make sure you'll be active while the game is running. I reserve the right to kick players from the game for inaction, even if their role doesn't allow them to do anything. So every other game day, I expect you to post at least once.
Godfather Hidden Mafia Role Hidden Mafia Role Serial Killer Hidden Non-killing Neutral Sheriff Investigator Doctor Hidden Town Role Hidden Town Role Hidden Town Role Hidden Town Role Citizen Citizen Citizen
Here are all the possible roles for this game, with information on what they do:
Citizen You are a regular, everyday Citizen. You have no night abilities.
Sheriff You are a sheriff. Each night, you check someone for suspicious activity. If the person you checked is a member of the Mafia or a Serial Killer, you will be informed as such.
Investigator You are an investigator. Each night, you check someone's home to gather clues as to what role they might be. You are not told the exact role of a checked person, but you will have some idea.
Here are the results you can obtain:
1. Your target seems unsuspicious. He or she is most likely a Citizen, but could also be a Jester or even the Godfather.
2. Your target looks for information. He or she is likely a Sheriff, Investigator, or Tracker, but could also be a Consigliere.
3. Your target visits people at night. He or she is a Bodyguard, Doctor, or Dancer, or maybe a Framer.
4. Your target owns weapons. He or she may be the Vigilante or Veteran, but could also be a Mafioso, or even a Serial Killer.
5. Your target seems to be a leader. He or she is probably the Mayor.
6. Your target works with dead bodies. He or she could be either the Coroner or Janitor.
7. Your target is a loner. He or she is either a Survivor or an Amnesiac.
Doctor You are an ingenious medical doctor. You have the ability to save the life of someone who was attacked, but only during that night. Attempting to save a person who was not attacked does nothing.
Mayor You are the Mayor of the town, gone into hiding. However, you may choose to reveal yourself by typing /reveal Mayor during the day. By doing so, your role is revealed to everyone, but your vote counts for three votes.
Vigilante You are an individual who will stop at nothing to enact justice. You may choose to kill someone at night. You may only do this twice, and cannot shoot the first night.
Coroner You are a Coroner. During the night, you may check the body of a dead person. You will learn your target's role, how he died, and any targets this person visited while alive.
Bodyguard You are a Bodyguard. You may choose someone to protect during the night. If that person is attacked, both you and the attacker die, regardless of any immunities the attacker may have.
Tracker You are a Tracker. You can stalk an individual and learn who they visited during the night, but you do not learn their roles or what they did.
Dancer You are a dancer with the abilities to stop one's night action from happening. You do not block night chats, usage of an automatic vest, or any passive abilities a player may have.
Veteran You are a paranoid war veteran. During the night, you may choose to go on alert, allowing you to kill everyone who visits you, regardless of immunity. You may use this ability twice, and you cannot be roleblocked.
Godfather You are the leader of the Mafia. You are the person who must send me the Mafia's nightkill and who will perform it. You may choose to perform the nightkill yourself whether there is a Mafioso or not. You have a bulletproof vest that will save you from death once, which is automatically activated when you are attacked. You cannot be roleblocked.
Consigliere You are basically the mafia investigator. If the Godfather dies, however, you will replace him and assume his duties. See the investigator detail for more information on your role.
Mafioso You are the lowliest of the Mafia. You can be sent to kill someone during the night.
Dancer Roleblocker, but on the Mafia's side.
Janitor You are a janitor working for the mafia. You may choose to clean someone during the night. If that person dies during that night, his or her role will not be revealed at the beginning of the day. If that person survives, nothing happens. You may carry out a successful clean twice.
Framer You are an expert at forging information. During the night, you may choose to frame someone as a member of the mafia. You may choose what (mafia) role that person will appear as to investigative roles.
Serial Killer You are a psychotic individual who wants everyone dead. You have the ability to kill someone during the night. You have a one-time-use automatic bulletproof vest that will protect you from death the first time you are attacked. You win if you are the last person remaining. If someone tries to roleblock you, you will kill them instead of your target.
Survivor You are an apathetic individual whose only goal is to live. You may win with any faction provided you are alive at the end of the game. You have two bulletproof vests you may use, but you must inform me if you are using one or not.
Jester You are a crazy individual whose goal is to be lynched. You only win if you are lynched during the day. Any other method of death will result in a loss. You may choose to visit someone at night, which does nothing but annoys them a little. If you are lynched (thus winning), one of the people who voted for you will suicide that night (chosen at random).
Amnesiac You have forgotten what role you were. During the night, you may choose to assume the role of someone who has already died. Once you do, your goals are the same as that of the role you assumed. You may also win if you manage to survive to the end of the game without dying and assuming a role (same as Survivor, but with no vests). You may not become the Godfather or the Mayor, due to their roles being unique.
Order of operations:
1. Veteran goes on alert 2. Dancer roleblocks 3. Survivor puts on vest 4. Bodyguard protects 5. Framer frames 6. Vigilante, Mafioso/Godfather, Serial Killer attack 7. Doctor saves 8. Sheriff, Investigator, Consigliere, Tracker get results 9. Coroner gets results 10. Janitor cleans 11. Jester visits 12. Amnesiac chooses role 13. Suicides
Mafia is a game where you are randomly assigned a role that only you know. You are also allied with other people and given an objective that must be carried out to win. There are usually two factions, the "town" and the "mafia." The town always outnumbers the mafia at the beginning of the game.
There are two phases in the game, day and night. During the day, everyone can participate in discussion, and you can also vote to eliminate a player. If the majority of everyone left in the game vote for a person, that person is eliminated and the day ends. During the night phase, the mafia chat with each other to select a target player to eliminate from the game. Players who are eliminated are considered "dead," have their role revealed to everyone, and cannot participate further. The town wins when all mafia players are eliminated. Conversely, the mafia wins if they outnumber the town.
The best part about Mafia is the various roles you can become. Typical roles include the sheriff and doctor, but there are lots of other ones with various functions. Most of them have an ability that works only at night.
Lastly, you may have to lie in order to conceal your role, especially if you are mafia or an anti-town role.
Game Mechanics Each day, I will make a post signalling that the day begins. After this, people can post whatever they feel like. Voting to eliminate a player (the official term for this is "lynching") can also happen. If you do this, make sure to follow this format: /vote Person. If you do not do this, you vote won't be counted. You can also unvote with /unvote Person. If a majority vote for one person is reached, he or she is eliminated from the game and cannot post in this thread anymore, everyone learns that person's role, and the day ends.
During night, nobody may post in this thread. Mafia members and Mason members can chat through PMs or some IRC channel or something, but MUST take all precautions to keep chat to themselves. Once everyone has submitted their final night action to me or the night ends, I will begin day with a post with who is eliminated and how.
One thing I must make clear: aside from Mafia and Masons who know who their team/group members are, nobody else knows who anyone else is, so do not reveal your own role unless you feel is necessary. Nobody aside from Mafia members and Masons can PM each other (i.e. Even if the Doctor and the Sheriff know each other, they can't PM each other to communicate), and even then cannot do so during the day. PMs will break the game, so please please please abide by this.
Lastly, unless you're a neutral role, being dead doesn't mean that you have lost! If you are a dead Sheriff, and the game ends with a Citizen, the Doctor, and the Tracker as the only three people left, you still win since you are listed under "Town" like everyone who was left alive.
Oh and do not discuss this game outside the game itself until it's over, please.
Also wondering, is it any way possible that you can make sure the people that played last time get different roles than the first game, but still make it random? It would make it more fun to play around with the different roles.
This version seems much more interesting, by the way, even if a bit more complicated. Jester sounds like a wack role though lol...
I can't guarantee that people will get different roles from last game. If I did and you knew that, you would already have information that lets you eliminate a role for everyone who played both games. That's a bit too much information, I'm afraid.
The Jester is a role that should prevent quick random lynching. Actually, I forgot to add information to it to make it a more deadly role; adding this now.
I liked it last time. Sign me up. Also, with the Amnesiac, can he/she take the role of a mafia member? I would laugh if Mafia won again.
Yes, the Amnesiac can side with the mafia if he wants to. At least one mafia member has to die first so he can assume that role, though.

No Masons this time?
Is it possible for one or more Neutral Roles AND the Town or Mafia to win (like the Jester, Survivor, and Town)?
Masons weren't very useful. :/
The Survivor, Jester, and an Amnesiac that doesn't do anything can win with anyone else, whether it's town, mafia, the serial killer, or by themselves. So yes, it's possible. The serial killer, however, due to his win conditions, must eliminate eliminate everyone else, so he cannot win if it's him and 2 mafia remaining in the game, for example. He does win the tiebreaker over everyone else, but that's only when 2 people remain.

Okay I'm in, it's mostly due to the new roles.
Does the Mayor's 3 vote count last only on the day he reveals the fact that he is mayor or does it continue on?
Once he reveals, his vote will always count for 3. Until he dies, of course.
Actually, this reminds me about something I left off with the Amnesiac - he'd be way too powerful if he could assume the roles of Godfather or Mayor, so I'm restricting him a bit. Plus it would make no sense :D
