The prices for both the WiFi only model and the 3G/Wi-Fi model have finally been announced with the WiFi only model being priced at $249.99 and the 3G model at $299.99. Some speculated that the Vita would hit the $399.99 - $499.99 range. If i'm not mistaken, the RAM was cut in half from 512 mb to 256 mb. Also, when it was first announced in Japan Sony mentioned that it would have 16 gb of internal memory. As far as i know, the Vita will no longer have internal memory. Although the specs aren't as powerful as originally planned, the hardware is still very much appealing. They obviously downgraded the specs so that it could compete with the 3DS (price wise).
I'll probably get the WiFi only model because i don't want to pay a monthly fee to have 3G. In my experience, Wi-Fi has always been faster than 3G. Being able to play online anywhere in the world is a cool idea, but i'm not too sure the online play will be smooth with a 3G network.
What are your thoughts on the Vita? Will you be picking one up?
I cant bring myself to pay more than 200 bucks for a handheld let alone one the price of a home console on top of buying memory, so no. maybe when the price drops after a few years, though at that point they will probably just release another upgraded version...
That thing looks really slick. It's like a whole PS3 in the palm of your hands. I also feel that the games available for it at launch are very innovative. Yes, you had games like Uncharted and Little Big Planet, but you also had that Soundshapes one where you could create different levels with musical notes and beats. I wish it had an internal hard drive, but overall the frontal and rear touch screens along with the excelerometer make it worthwhile for me.
I think its going to fail like the PSP because all the games are just going to be side storys for major hit PS3 games and possible PS4 if it comes out. I honestly don't think sony should make hand held gaming systems because like the PSP it became boring after playing it for a month. They should just stick to improving there consoles and computers.
I'm probably going to get the 3G/Wi-fi model, mainly for LittleBigPlanet Vita, once you've completed the LBP story, online is all you have to turn to, apart from making your own stuff, which you will probably want to publish. It'll also let me publish more high quality levels, instead of terrible LBP1 levels without any logic gates or powerups.
