Around 3 or so weeks ago, using the resources available in the Admin Control Panel etc, the staff discussed the issue of bots; due to the fact at least one bot was getting banned every single day. So, a couple of things were done to counteract them. Firstly, email validation was implemented again which didn't seem to do much, and compulsory profile fields on registration were added.
The catch is, without a modification (which needs server access, which only Marriland himself has), you can't do something that requires a text based answer to a question. The best thing that could be done was having questions that required a certain number (if you picked the wrong number, it would actually give an error giving the number you needed) and a question that had a default rejected answer.
So far, it seems the battle against the bots has turned, with around one bot ban per week now, so fingers crossed that this thing continues to actually work when it comes to reducing their numbers. Hope this clears stuff up about those weird profile fields.
