Yes you can pre order and pay it off a little at a time. Do note though that when its game day all the money that is left will be owed at once and you won't get your game unless you pay it off.
Pokemon is the only series I pre order. I learned from Yellow how not being able to get the game on day 1 feels like.
Unless I am doing a nuzlocke I don't nickname my pokemon as a rule.
With region locks I would say yes, but with downloads I am not sure .

No Pokemon has moved on to the 3ds. They are done making games for a system that is 8+ years.
I can carry my xl in my pockets and they are not super huge pockets. So unless you have small pockets, you should be able to fit an xl in your pocket.

If you put it in the normal mode (while game is going up hit down select) and you can play in original mode. If not it will strech it out a little. I am used to it by now.
As for which one is better from what I learned from researching I would say the xl is better (better battery life, buttons etc). I love my xl however I would have no way to trade between X Y or any future pokemon games thats on the 3ds (for the DS games I trade through my dsi and 3ds xl) so I am considering getting a reg. 3ds (cheaper and why pay 200 dollars for an xl for trading only). But I hear the XL is better.
