You can't revive the forums if the headadministrator of the site doesn't cooperate/cares about them. It's like trying to steer a sinking shipPosted in: User Input and Help

In all honesty i've tried 'Little cup' before but i found it quite difficult to adept to the lvl 5 environment after being used to play lvl 100 for ages.Posted in: Competitive Battling (5th Gen)
Any idea's how to make the transition towards it in a fluent way?

Dougjustdoug has finished all the programming already for putting the analyses on site(according to him it was an insane amount of work to do so), however there a dispute going on between him and chaos. Seeing as chaos gets quite a decent income from the site adds but hasn't done anything for the site in ages. Doug wants all the money to go to charity instead of profit, meanwhile chaos wants to use the money to pay the admins for their programming work on the site.Posted in: Competitive Battling (5th Gen)
Though i'm just a moderator so i'm not in touch with all the details surrounding it.

The original host of the smogon university server Rising_Dusk suddenly decided to quit after a dispute regarding a policy matter, that's why smogon was down for a while. I'm not quite certain about the details but i'm pretty sure RU was involved with it too.(He made that tier all by himself without telling anyone beforehand).Posted in: Competitive Battling (5th Gen)
Also there are plans to make an RU subforum in DST in the near future i heard.

Posted in: Competitive Battling (5th Gen)So I've been out of the meta loop for a while. Garchomp got banned while I was away and everything! What new sets are the FotM and stuff in competitive?
Well here's a bit of incoherent rambling on what i've seen recently.
Well it depends a bit on how long you haven't been around and which metagame you play(smogon's or PO's). Few things i noticed recently is an increase in ScarfPolitoed usage which is pretty much the only scarfer in the metagame that can revenge kill Excadrill. More and more people seem to be running Scarf or Spec's on their Rotoms as well, which can be quite annoying at times. Also every person on the ladder appears to be running his own Tyranitar set, i rarely encounter two of the same. Thundurus often runs Leftovers on their offensive sets and they also tend to run T-wave instead of Nasty Plot at times to prevent a beating from fast sweepers.

Posted in: Competitive Battling (5th Gen)You see, though we got a plethora of new scarfers this gen (Ditto, Hydregion, Genosect etc,)
Dreamworld Ditto and Genosect aren't released yet, therefore you can't really consider them to be part of the Gen V metagame.
The problem with Garchomp is not the Scarf/CB/Yache set but the subchomp set used in condemn with Sandstream. Seeing as Sand Veil makes 20% of the moves miss, there is a likely possibility that you get at least one free SD (and one Sub if you forced out your opponent with Garchomp) allowing it to sweep.
The reason why some people consider it suspect is because the only way to deal with this set is to pray that you won't miss too often.

Posted in: General ChatThe glory days of 2007 or whenever this forum was awesome won't be back, and they won't be coming back. We can hope that Daniel or Devin can do something with the server, but they're too busy with some other project(s). If the forum isn't the top priority of the owner, it looks bad on a now small community like this. Sure, he's got all these resources, but they're barely linked with the forums.
To be honest, I prefer the current marriland with small cliques rather than the so called 'glory' days of 2007. Barely anyone knew each other, idiots were spamming topics with one lines all over the place and worst of all marrilag. Sometimes the lag was so bad it became simply impossible to access the forums.
It's also ironic as i remember quite well that there was a similar topic back then made by people who joined before the D/P rush, embracing the amazing days of the forums before the insane influx of new members ruined it.

Posted in: General ChatIt's really unfortunate but the first two words pretty much sum up the situation we are in. We've (and I speak on behalf of the whole staff here) requested Dev for a ton of things and most (if not all) never really materialized. I'm not going to go totally anti-Dev here because he has done a fair few things which the members generally don't tend to notice (I don't expect the members to take notice in all fairness though). But at the same time I can't get overly happy about the things he does either, because these are things you expect of him as the founder and (former) administrator of the forums. We actually had someone (Daniel) offer to help with the technical aspect of the forums and add features etc but again it just didn't work out. There was some talk going on a few months back and most of us got a bit excited thinking it's finally gonna happen, but it didn't. So ultimately I agree with what you've said here but we have tried this previously (and on more than 1 occasion) and it hasn't worked out (yet).
Smogon also used to have issues regarding their main administrator Chaos, as he's been inactive for a very long time now. Yet smogon seems to run very smoothly because he appointed an administrator to be a head administrator in his place, allowing smogon to be run smoothly despite the site's creator being gone.
The huge problem with this site is that the massive amount of people visiting the main site never visit the forums at all. According to Alexa Marriland.com's reach is about as high as smogon's as shown by this graph
Unlike smogon however do not have 500 members or more online during the weekends, we'd be lucky if we ever reach 20. The reason is quite simple, Smogon's main page is all about the forums(New tournaments, Contributions from members, a section that basically begs you to participate, Headlines are made by forum staff members, etc...) meanwhile Marriland never mentions the forums at all. If Dev is nor willing to coöperate nor willing to accept help from forum members nor willing to let any staff member to access the site and keeps doing things all by himself, the forums will die out.
Quite frankly i do not understand him, a coöperation between forum members and him would help both parties tremendously with the forums becoming active again and marriland having much less work and responsibility on his shoulders. But i guess he doesn't trust us enough for that?
