This is the Main Oekaki Board. Here you should be putting effort into your pictures. Edited on July 4th, 2008, due to the dropping of the quality in art on the main board recently after Marriland assigned new administrators. Re-edited on October 5th, 2008. Small detail added.


- Spend at least 30 minutes on your picture. The more time you spend on it, the more effort, the better it is. We have decided to change the 10 minute rule to 30 - if you do not have the time or the patience to draw a picture that is at least 30 minutes, or a picture that looks like it would usually take 30 minutes to draw (a rather decent, good picture), then please practice on the doodle board. We do not need 15-minute spam pictures flooding this board.

- Try your best to put in a background, matching or not matching. It makes the picture look livelier/darker, whatever you're shooting for.

- Put "in-depth" shading. Don't randomly put darker areas and say "There I put in shading."

- Make your picture look neat. 1/10 times, you can put scribbly line art and it'll look nice. For the rest of the times, it looks rushed and messy.

Please try to follow these guidelines to make your artwork nicer and better fit for the main board!

The Doodle Board is where you can doodle your heart out, with no time limit or expectations.

Lastly, if you are making a Pro Board Application, the words "Pro App" in the title of the picture, or in the tags, will make searching for your picture much easier.

I'm going to have to say no. I'm not going to be very nit-picky but if you want me to i can come back and be very nit-picky.

First off the lighting is a little... Skewed? I'm not sure how to say it but it seems a little indirect. Where exactly is your light source? Next, I'd have to say that these are very simplistic pokemon (they're mostly circles with a few distinctions) and don't showcase much anatomy. A more detailed subject might be better. Then there's your perspective which seems really funky in the water, and your background is very... Simple. I'd suggest putting more details and shading.

Mmmkay, first, the crits and observations, then the verdict.

Colouring:

It's okay, nothing too wowing or superb. I do like the way you've done the water, those colours are quite nice~
One thing I mustmustMUST point out is that when it comes to the background, there's really no shading, which is a bit disappointing. I'd really like to see some more shading on the background.
One thing I've noticed about the way you colour is that you're quick to go for the shadows. I dunno, but I would almost expect more lighter tones on Marril, seeing as it's pretty much a sphere. Oh, on that note, the way you've shaded it makes it look, well...not spherical. I think that the curvy-twurvy lines that define tones is a bit unnecessary; a good ol' simple curve would have done just fine~
You seem to have a decent grasp on shading, so I don't feel the need to go too far into that.

Anatomy:

Not...much...here...Pro apps normally have something with a bit more difficult anatomy; the Dragonite picture you did would have been a better pick because then we really get to see what you can handle when it comes to anatomy.
I think you realize this though, reading your comments.

Background:

Yeah, way too simple, and it TOTALLY throws the perspective off. Again, I'd be beating a dead horse going into it.

Overall Ability:

I'm just not wowed. Your stuff is nice to look at, and it's definitely Main Board worthy, but as for the Pro Board...I just don't think you're ready yet.
One thing I would like to see more of is complexity with your colouring. You seem to go for a three-tone approach in a lot of your pieces, sometimes less, and while I'm not very good with solids myself, I think you could use maybe 5 or 6 shades and give it that much more depth~
Another thing I'd like to see is more complexity in your composition. This is the only piece of yours that has a complicated background that interacts with the subjects. Funky colour effects and patterns are dandy and all, but you will need to do something more than that in order to really nail a Pro Board picture.

So, my verdict is no, but you're close~

 ooh... harsh smiley I like this picture alot, but there are only two things that kinda bug me, The lilly pads in the background look like they're standing vertically, and marrils tail is a bit too thick, other than that I think it's absoloutely gorgeous smiley
