New Features

There are tons of new features in Pokémon X & Y, with more features being revealed all the time! Here's a run down of some of the new features added, as well as links to pages going more in-depth on the new features.

Mega Evolution

Mega Evolution is a new mechanic that revolutionizes evolution, allowing certain Pokémon to Mega Evolve into a powerful new form, potentially changing their ability, types, and certainly changing their appearance. Mega Evolutionary forms, such as Mega Mewtwo or Mega Ampharos, are different from their usual counterparts, and require items known as Mega Stones in order to induce the Mega Evolution.

Pokémon-Amie is a new feature that allows players to interact with their Pokémon, playing with them, feeding them, and even just petting them. This leads to improvements in battle, such as increased critical hit rates and dodging ability.

Character Customization

At long last Pokémon fans have the option of customizing their characters in a main series Pokémon game. You can wear accessories, hats, change your clothes and hair, and much more. These changes will appear to all of your friends, acquaintances, and even passersby.

New Battle Styles

Pokémon X & Y introduces at least two new battle styles. The first of these battle styles is Horde Battles, which pit one of your Pokémon against five wild Pokémon in a single battle! These can be very dangerous, so attacks that hit multiple targets are key for victory in these Horde Battles.

Sky Battles are another new battle style introduced in Pokémon X & Y, which allow Trainers to battle in the air using only certain Flying-type Pokémon or Pokémon with the Levitate ability.

Player Search System (PSS)

The Player Search System (abbreviated as PSS) is the replacement for the old C-Gear, Union Room, and GTS, rolled all into one easily-accessible device. It allows players to trade, battle, and interact over either local wireless or online.

New Travel Methods

There are also a few new methods of travel in Pokémon X & Y. The first new travel method is the ability to ride Pokémon. Certain Pokémon may be ridden by their Trainers in order to get from place to place or to make traversing cumbersome terrain easier.

Another new method of travel is the use of Roller Blades, which allow you to zip around quicker than walking, plus you can use them to wall slide against banisters and the like.

Multiple Languages

You also have the option of playing Pokémon X & Y in one of seven languages, too. You can't change the language while you're playing the game, but presumably you'll be able to change it before firing up the game each time you play.

After years of being unable to do so properly, you can now finally sit down on benches while playing Pokémon X & Y. Benches are included in various towns and cities throughout Kalos, although Santalune City is a city famous for their benches, among other things.

I really like some of the features that have been revealed!

First off, I love the fact that you can now pet your Pokémon with Pokémon-Amie. Is it sure that it will be effective in-battle or is that only rumoured to be? It would be an awesome way to evolve Pokémon that need a high-level friendship in order to evolve!

Also, it's a plus that you can now decide for yourself how your character is going to look like. Perhaps the six choices for your character's face are the only ones revealed, so it is possible that there are more to come! One of the two ways to travel is also interesting! Those roller blades are not that great (I'd rather ride around on a bike), but I wonder if Gogoat will be the only Pokémon to ride on. How awesome would it be, travelling around on a Pokémon? :D

I'm most excited about the new ways to battle, though. Those horde battles look tough, but those sky battles look fantastic! I do wonder how they're going to let the flying-type Pokémon that don't actually fly fly, though. It would be funny to see Mantine, Doduo, Dodrio and Gyarados float on air, just like the Pokémon with the Levitate ability (Eelektross, Carnivine, etc.). I really can't wait until October!

However, it's too bad that there's not an option to play in Dutch (my own language). Not that it matters, I'm used to playing in English. ;)

Also, why is Marriland so excited about sitting on benches? Of all the things revealed it is possibly the least interesting. XD

I love these new features. So much in this game to love! I so agree.

Pokemon-Amie is so cool. Now we can interact with Pokemon! And XerneasLover i agree it will help with high level friendship evolvers! And it leading to dodging ability! Omg so awesome.

The customization will attract people who like to play a character similar to them selves and will bring somewhat of a new enjoyment to the game.

The traveling on Pokemon! So epic! I hope more Pokemon will be eligible to ride on. Maybe it will be a learnable thing like fly? The roller skates are cool! we can do parkour in Pokemon!

The new Horde battle will help level up your Pokemon easier. The sky battles, 1 more epic thing in Pokemon! I believe i can fly! While battling another Pokemon! Epicness!

Benches. Benches. Benches. What. Just what.

Haha, I guess many people are excited for X & Y. The Pokémon games are getting better and better and those new features actually look very cool, but I'm not looking forward to every feature, though. I never had a thing for interaction with other people, for example, it's just the storyline and building a team around my starter that matters. So for other people PSS looks cool, but not for me. Or maybe that's because I don't know anybody around me who plays Pokémon, hahaha. :P

Why the heck does that even matter? It's not like you have to stand all the time, it's your character who doesn't feel it anyway, hahaha. XD

How much money does a 2ds cost? Im planning on buying pokemon x.

  • #55 XerneasLover

According to the website of Nintendo, a 2DS costs around $130, but that depends on the store selling this thing. You're doing good by buying Pokémon X, though, that game probably has the best version exclusives! :D

Why are you asking me, by the way? :P

Well, to answer your question: there's a comment box at the very bottom of any article's page. But you have probably found out by now, so my answer might be pretty useless to you. :)
