I think it looks cute, but I also have high hopes for this little creature.

It might evolve into something that looks more like a horse later on down the line because it behaves like, and has a similar name to, the kelpie.

Consider also, that in Greek mythology seahorses are the baby versions of hippocamps (the half horse half fish beasts of Greek and Phoenician legend), and the notion of a seahorse pokemon evolving into a creature more like an actual horse becomes more reasonable.

This would also be nice because it means that we then have both the East Asian mythological idea of what a seahorse is and the Mediterranean mythological idea of what a seahorse is in the same franchise.

    Good point

I have high hopes for this Pokemon, as well. At first glance Skrelp looks to me like a Weedy Sea Dragon. Being that it has a very thin, and "flimsy" appearance to one of my favorite animals. Even though Kingdra is said to be based off the exact same animal, in combination with sea horses. It hasn't exactly stopped the designers in the past from making Pokemon that hold a close semblance, in some way to each other, i.e. Seismitoad, Poliwrath, and Politoed.

I won't be surprised if this lil' fella' evolves into, possibly a Poison-Dragon dual type. But that's just my two cents on the matter. Your hypothesis seems more reasonable than mine though.

I agree with Empoleon. It looks like a very sick seaweed. (imo)

How come most of the new don't like at all, they are a bit strange looking but give them a chance people its a new generation what do you expect.

  • #6 Galvan3rd

The majority of fans may disagree with me on this, but Skrelp is my favorite new pokémon revealed so far. It just looks so... strange and interesting. It is definitely different, and I am excited to see what it is capable of...

I respect your opinion, but I personally think it looks a bit... Old?. But what can you do?. Imo, I am very excited for Litleo and Honedge. Litleo can look like this generation's Vulpix or Houndour. Honedge looks like something that can really cause trouble. I think in at least one X and Y Anime Episode, Honedge will make an appearance as a villain, but only time will tell.
