Yesterday's announcement showing off Mewtwo transforming into its new "Awakened" form definitely roused some discussion amongst fans, speculating as to what it could mean. Additionally, the official Japanese Pokémon YouTube channel released a trailer for the upcoming Genesect and Mewtwo movie shortly thereafter. The above video shows my impressions of these new developments, where I talk about the new Mewtwo form as well as new scenes of the eighth Eevee evolution, Sylveon, from the Japanese trailer.
Looking for the new Japanese movie trailer? You can check it out below! Just keep in mind that it's, of course, in Japanese.
Images of more promotional posters for the upcoming Pokémon movie, Godspeed/ExtremeSpeed Genesect and the Reawakening of Mewtwo, have been posted to the Japanese message board, 2ch. The exciting thing about these posters is that they show a new form for Mewtwo.
Two images were posted showing off the new form, which you can see above. While these have yet to be confirmed, checking out the Japanese Pokémon Movie website shows a suspicious empty space beneath Mewtwo while showing Genesect's alternate forms (the different Drives for it).
It appears that the two hexagons beneath Mewtwo are meant to include its alternate form once it is officially revealed. The fact that there are two hexagons beneath Mewtwo may perhaps indicate that Mewtwo will receive a second alternate form in addition to the one shown above, although this is solely speculation stemming from the fact there are two hexagons beneath Mewtwo positioned similarly to the four rectangles beneath the Red Genesect, which show off Genesect's alternate forms.
It's still possible this could be a hoax, as it is yet to be confirmed, but the fact that the official movie website shows that extra space beneath Mewtwo suggests that it may indeed be true.

Two new video trailers have been uploaded to the official Japanese Pokémon YouTube channel showing scenes from the upcoming movie, translated as Godspeed/Extremespeed Genesect and the Reawakening of Mewtwo. The first, shown above, shows one of the Genesect from the movie attacking Ash in a city, with Mewtwo flying in to save him.
The second video is a longer video, showing several Genesect in a dark lab with a mysterious voice speaking, then showing extended scenes from the first video. It also shows a little more of the special video that will be aired beforehand, Pikachu & Eevee Friends, which features Pikachu, Meowth, Eevee, and all of Eevee's evolutions, including the newly revealed Sylveon. It doesn't reveal too much more about Sylveon, though, but you do at least get to see it in anime form.
Godspeed/Extremespeed Genesect and the Reawakening of Mewtwo and Pikachu & Eevee Friends will be released in theaters in Japan on July 13th, 2013. No word yet when this will be released outside of Japan, though.
(NOTE: 神速 literally translates to "Godspeed," and there is an attack by the same name in Japanese; this attack name was changed to "Extremespeed" in the English versions, although it does not convey the same meaning. That is why both translations are included.)
Pokémon TV has gotten a lot more awesome! First and foremost, you can now download the Pokémon TV app from either the Apple App Store or from Google's Play Store to watch a variety of Pokémon TV episodes from the comfort of your mobile device or tablet. That is definitely pretty great and worth checking out!
The recent Pokémon Movie, Kyurem vs. The Sword of Justice, featuring Keldeo and Kyurem, is available for a limited time on Pokémon TV. You can watch it on the official website or on the aforementioned app, but only until February 18th, so if you want a free screening of Kyurem vs. The Sword of Justice, now is your chance to watch it!
Not only that, but Pokémon TV is also featuring the never-before-released-in-English Meloetta's Moonlight Serenade short feature, starring the Pokémon Meloetta. The Japanese releases of movies are usually accompanied by a short feature before the movie airs, similar to how Pikachu's Vacation from Pokémon The Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back was way back. A lot of these shorts haven't been released outside of Japan, so it is great to see Pokémon stepping up and releasing the Meloetta's Moonlight Serenade short. You can watch it on Pokémon TV at your leisure until March 24th.
Also be sure to check out this week's Pokémon Update from Curse, which talks a bit about the newest Eevee evolution, Sylveon! You can watch the video on YouTube by clicking the image above.
While it's been a bit of a slow news week on the Pokémon X and Y front and with several of the larger Trading Card Game and Video Game tournaments winding down this month, it's the Pokémon Anime's turn to get an update! The Pokémon Anime is now entering its newest season, BW Adventures in Unova, starting this Saturday at 8:30am (7:30am Central Time) on Cartoon Network.
On top of that, there's a Pokémon marathon taking place Sunday, February 3rd on Cartoon Network, with several exciting episodes from the previous season, BW Rival Destinies, as well as a showing of the latest Pokémon movie, Pokémon the Movie: Kyurem vs. The Sword of Justice. Finally, at the tail end of the marathon, Saturday's episode from BW Adventures in Unova will be shown once again. This marathon begins at 11:00am (10:00am Central Time) and will go on for four hours.
On another note, the Keldeo distribution mentioned in a previous update is now live, so if you haven't picked up Keldeo already over the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection on Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2, now would be a great time to do so! The event lasts until February 12th and is available in all international regions.
Shown above is the Japanese trailer for the upcoming Pokemon movie, Godspeed Genesect(神速のゲノセクト; 神速 [しんそく] is the name of ExtremeSpeed in Japanese, although its exact Japanese definition is "godspeed"). In the trailer, you can see a peculiar Genesect flying around and wreaking havoc in the middle of a city. It is not just any ordinary Genesect, though: it is a Shiny Genesect, whichis evident due to its red color. You can also see a regular Genesect briefly in the first few seconds of the trailer, suggesting that the Shiny Genesect is not the only one featured in the movie.
Not all that much is revealed in the trailer, unfortunately, although a release date — July 13th, 2013 — was announced for Japan, along with the title of the special short movie that often accompanies the Japanese Pokemon movies: Pikachu & Eevee Friends (ピカチュウとイーブイフレンス).
Additionally, according to a scan of CoroCoro, there will be a Japanese event giving out Genesect to any fifth generation Pokemon game from January 11th, 2013 to February 10th, 2013, although it is not shiny and is not available over Wi-Fi, meaning you'll have to visit one of the Pokemon Centers in Japan in order to receive it.
